SRM University MTS India Section Student Chapter

SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER IS THE FIRST MTS STUDENT CHAPTER initiated in the year 2016 in SRM Institute of Science and Technology by MTS INDIA SECTION. The chapter has active 35 student members and a faculty mentor. The chapter is very active in organizing many technical workshops, competitions for college and school students, school awareness camp in marine related fields and latest technical developments. The student chapter members are awarded with 5 MTS awards for student members during the past 2 years. The chapter has actively volunteered in many activities arranged by MTS INDIA SECTION. Also, the student members are also part of Underwater vehicle team and Autonomous underwater team of SRM Institute of Science and Technology. The team has also involved in societal activities like understanding the needs of fishermen and currently working in technology developments for fishing vessels including communication and fishermen catch and hence creating a livelihood environment for the fishermen.

MTS Undergraduate Scholarship 2017 – 3000 USD

Ajith Raj, a graduate student in Electrical and Electronics Department, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur has won the prestigious ‘MTS Undergraduate Scholarship’ for 3000 USD. Ajith has also been part of various multidisciplinary funded projects and Initiatives in SRM and has represented his college for Marine Autonomous Surface Vehicle(ASV) development in International Roboboat Competition in Virginia. He was also amongst the founding members and Secretary for the ‘SRM MTS Student Chapter’, which is the first MTS Student Chapter in India, and he also served as the Technical Head for IEEE KTR Branch.

MTS VEMBU SUBRAMANIAM SCHOLARSHIP-2018: INR 1,25,000

Sathyaram is currently pursuing his final year graduate Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering from SRM Institute of Science and Technology. He is an active member of MTS SRM Student section and member of SRM AUV team. Presented a paper in the MTS TechSurge conference on Underwater Search & Rescue  (SAR) and his paper won prize. Selected & Sponsored for the “imaginary AUV project” at the AUV 2016 conference by IEEE OES Japan and University of Tokyo, Japan. He received one year free IEEE student membership and MTS Teledyne free student membership. He has received the MTS Vembu Scholarship for the year 2018.

Abihilasha Dey from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, currently doing her third year of engineering in Computer science engineering. She is an active member of SRM MTS Student chapter as program advertising committee and also head in ROV team in SRM campus - Recon subsea as a software engineer. SACHIN SRIVASTAVA, a graduate student from Mechatronics Department, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur has won the prestigious ‘CHARLES H.BUSSMAN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP’ for 2500 USD. Ajith has also been part of various multidisciplinary funded projects and Initiatives in SRM and has represented his college for Marine Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) development in International Roboboat Competition in Virginia. Dr.J.PREETHA ROSELYN
SRM MTS FACULTY MENTOR, SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER

Dr.J.PREETHA ROSELYN is working as Associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in SRM Institute of Science and Technology. She completed her B.E (EEE) from Madras University in the year 2002, M.S(By Research) from Anna University in the year 2007 and Ph.D from SRM University in the year 2015. Her areas of specialization are Voltage stability, Computational intelligent techniques, Evolutionary computation, Grid integration issues of renewable energy, Building automation and smart metering infrastructure. She has published 25 international publications among which 9 are SCI indexed journals, 20 conference publications and 1 book “GA based placement of FACTS devices for voltage stability Enhancement- GA based coding”, Lambert academic publishing, UK. She has received DST funded project in the topic “Optimal energy management system in shipboard power system with solar PV for the period 2018-2021. Related to this project she is working along with National Institute of Ocean Technology group. She is appointed as faculty mentor of Marine Technology Society, US. She has organized 11 STTPs, workshops and FDPs.

 ANIRUDH RAVI,
PRESIDENT, SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER

Mr Anirudhh Ravi is pursuing BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, TN, India. He is currently the Vice- Chairperson of SRM MTS Student chapter. His research interests include Microgrid and battery modelling. He has done internships in various area like electric power systems, electric traction and manufacturing technology at L&T, Mutiara Thermal Power Plant, Chennai Metro Railway Limited and Tube Products of India. His current internship at NIOT is in the field of battery modelling and SoC estimation methods.  He has also presented a paper titled ‘Detection of Infectious Disease using Non-Invasive Logistic Regression Technique’ at IEEE INCOS 2019 conference and received the best paper award. He is an active part of the SRM MTS Student awareness program and has visited various schools.

VARUN GOPAL,
SECRETARY, SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER

Mr Varun Gopal is pursuing BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, TN, India. He is currently the Secretary of SRM MTS Student chapter and has been in the position since 2018. He has interned at Schneider Electric India Limited and has worked in the area of protection circuits. His research interests include Power systems and Energy Storage systems. He has received best paper award for ‘Detection of Infectious Disease using Non-Invasive Logistic Regression Technique’. He is interested in creating awareness to the young minds about the current trends in the field of marine. He has also won meritorious scholarship as best speaker in SRM Model United Nations on the topic Intellectual property rights.

PRANAV CHANDRAN,
TREASURER, SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER

Pranav Chandran is pursuing BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, TN, India. He is the department topper for the academic year 2015-2019 with a percentage of 95%. He has been a recipient of the annual SRM Merit scholarship for the academic year 2015-2019  .He has been the treasurer of SRM MTS Student Chapter since 2018. He has received best paper award at the IEEE International Conference INCOS’19 under the title ‘Development of Intelligent control strategy for grid connected Solar PV systems’ conducted at Kalasalingam University. He is currently working on SoC estimation method for VRLA Battery at his Internship at NIOT. He has been an active part of Techathon’ 2018 conducted by SRM MTS Student Chapter. His research interests include Power system, Solar PV systems and Renewable energy integration with the grid.

 SAIMADHURA,
PUBLIC RELATIONS HEAD, SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER

Saimadhura is pursuing BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, TN, India. Since 2018, she has been the Public Relations Head of SRM MTS Student Chapter. She has worked on Hybrid Electric Vehicles and its power converter system at her internship at DRDO, Chennai, India. She is currently doing her internship at NIOT on Battery Management system for Marine Applications. She has done Core 1 and 2 training in LabVIEW Software and has worked with National Instruments Products. She is an active part of the organising committee for the MTS Student Competitions including Techathon’ 2018 conducted at SRM IST. She has received best paper award under the title ‘Development of Intelligent control strategy for grid connected Solar PV systems’ at IEEE International Conference INCOS’2019. Her current interests include Renewable Energy, Battery management and control and Power Systems.  

 

 

Activities

EVENT NO 1: INAUGURATION DATE: AUGUST 22,2016

SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER INAUGURATION

It is a proud moment to mention SRM University is the first Indian university to start student division in India.  The inaugural ceremony for SRM-MTS student chapter commenced by a group of dignified persons – Dr. R. Venkatesan (Scientist G and Head, NIOT), Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan (Director E&T, SRM University), Mr. R. Nandakumar (Secretary, MTS) and Commodore Shekar on August 22nd, 2016. Dr.J.Preetha Roselyn, Faculty Advisor welcomed the gathering and also introduced the office bearers. The roles of SRMASV, SRMAUV and the SRMROV teams which have collaborated together will be the driving force behind this Society. Dr.R.Venkatesan handed over the MTS Approval letter to Director (E&T).
Dr. R. Venkatesan threw some light on the thrust areas of research in which NIOT is currently active. He described and explained the importance of Marine Technology Society for the students while he also explained the various opportunities by which scholarships could be availed and also be able to attend various conferences across the globe. The inauguration was followed by technical talk by Mr. R. Nandakumar on “Communication Technology in Marine”. Then Commodore Shekar expressed his vision on “Career Opportunities in Marine”.
Following the establishment of the student section, few members of the section showed their interest in student ocean awareness and education by actively being involved in the inauguration of the Oceans Technology Students camp, an initiative by NIOT with IEEE- OES India Council that took place the following week in the NIOT campus, Chennai.


EVENT NO 2: TECHNICAL WORKSHOP : 26 TO 30 SEP, 2016

Marine Technology Society- SRM University Chapter organised a 5-days extensive workshop of core1 and core 2 training pertaining to National Instruments' Lab View. We are glad to add here that it was a great success as the workshop got a commendable response and around 30 students from the campus took the advantage of the training. On the very first day, a detailed introduction about the company and its lab view software was given to the students by one of the senior most executives of the company. This enabled the students to gain an extensive knowledge about the company in addition to a brief introduction about the software. This called an end to the introduction and the two trainers took over from here. The trainers commenced the training with briefing the students about its applications and importance in the automation industry. For the next 5 days, the trainers trained the students in a very organised and professional manner teaching the students about the basic in the very beginning and then went on to the core implementation of the basics only after assuring that the students were clear about the basics. Since the workshop was scheduled for five days, the course and the training agenda was planned in such a manner that it doesn't come as a burden or an alien course to the students. We would like to add here that, it was indeed a great success as all the students found it quite a knowledge enhancing experience and were able to grasp a lot. At the end, all of the students expressed their gratitude towards the Marine Technology Society- SRM University Chapter for taking such an initiative.

EVENT NO 3: 2ND TECHNICAL WORKSHOP: MARCH 23-25, 2016

Three days extensive technical workshop batch - II of core1 and core 2 training pertaining to National Instruments' Lab View were conducted as the second event as part of SRM MTS India student section from 23 to 25 March 2017. Glad to add here that it was a great success as the workshop got a commendable response and around 50 students from the student members took the advantage of the training. The trainers commenced the training with briefing the students about its applications and importance in the automation industry. At the end, all of the students expressed their gratitude towards the Marine Technology Society- SRM University Chapter for taking such an initiative.

EVENT NO 4: DEEP DIVE-SCHOOL CHILDREN AWARENESS PROGRAMME : FEB 22,2017

Dive Deep was a initiative undertaken by the SRM MTS Chapter, to spread awareness about technological reforms in fields of unmanned or autonomous marine systems including Autonomous Surface Vehicles(ASV), and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles(AUV) with the underlying objective to cultivate interests of budding student community in the advancing marine technology. As a part of the program, two research teams from SRM University- SRM ASV and SRM AUV visited a school-Sree Sankara Bala Vidyalaya Golden Jubilee school which was located in Palaikaranai, Chennai to enlighten the students about autonomous marine technology and the work being done in this field. The program started with an inaugural address by Mr.Thirugnanan-Scientist at National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT),which mainly concentrated on MTS and its functions, along with a small preview of the 'Dive Deep' Initiative. Following this, the members of the two teams SRM ASV and SRM AUV gave a detailed and informative presentation, to help the students understand the how this technology works, importance of the work that is done and its many potential applications in fields of defense and research. At the end, a Q&A along with a Quiz session was held and MTS badges and chocolates were given out to all the students who were able to answer the questions correctly. The first step of the program was extremely successful it was able to create a sense of intrigue and curiosity in the students, and to encourage them to pursue Marine engineering for higher education. SRM MTS Chapter also actively plans to continue with another edition of the 'Dive Deep' Initiative in the upcoming months to encourage more students.

EVENT NO 5: MATLAB PROGRAMMING WORKSHOP: OCT 6 TO 7, 2017

The idea behind this workshop was to teach students how to interface hardware with the MATLAB Software and develop applications based on it. The workshop started with the light lamping ceremony done by Mr. Saurabh Joshi (Co-Founder RF Technologies,Hyderabad) ,Dr. J Preetha Roselyn (SRM MTS Mentor) , Dr. G Murali ( HOD Mechatronics) and Mr. K Sivanathan ( Asst. Professor Mechatronics). Mr. Amoghavarsha (Student and member SRM MTS) started the workshop by addressing the chief guest Mr. Saurabh Joshi by throwing some light on his current achievements. The welcome speech was given by Dr. J Preetha Roselyn and addressed the students how MATLAB is going to strengthen its base in market and will be used in future and also how important is interfacing a hardware with MATLAB in industrial applications. At the end of inaugural ceremony the Chairman of SRM MTS Student Chapter, Mr. Sachin Srivastava delivered vote of thanks to the Chief guest and SRM MTS Mentor for their presence on the auspicious occasion as well as the participants and wish them best of luck for the workshop. The first session started with an Introduction to MATLAB Software and its current applications in industrial level (like Speech Signal Processing, etc), Introduction about the various tools. The speaker along with his assistant cleared the doubts of the students and told them how to check their codes and deploy them. On the second day, students were taken to the lab where everyone was given individual system with MATLAB and Arduino installed in it. The hardware such as Arduino board, an IR Sensor, a Camera module was given to the participants as a part of the practice kits. In the first session, the participants were told about Simulink models, Image reading and Processing and other few complicated things. In the second session the students were introduced to how an application like Home Automation and IOT is done using MATLAB. The questionary session was there throughout both the sessions. The students were provided with certificates.

EVENT NO 6: TECHATHON MARITIME COMPETITION : JAN 22,23, 2018.

TWO DAYS TECHATHON - MARITIME COMPETITION 2018 - NATIONAL LEVEL Marine Technology Society, India Section and SRM MTS Student Chapter organized a national level project completion, TECHATHON MARITIME COMPETITION-2018 during January 22 & 23, 2018 in SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. The theme of the competition is to develop a remote communication system for marine purpose without GSM or satellite phones. Around 47 participants comprising 18 teams participated in the competition from various institutions. The programme was commenced with an inaugural function on 22 January 2018. Dr.R.Venkatesan, Chairman, MTS India Section welcomed the gathering. Mr.K.Nandakumar, Secretary, MTS India Section briefed about the competition purpose and benefits. Dr.K.Vijayakumar, HOD/EEE delivered the felicitation address. A video was released about the MTS India Section activities and the various awards received by the MTS student members in India. Mr.AjithRaj, Software engineer, Visteon shared his experience in SRM MTS student chapter. Mr.Muralikrishnan, National Instruments explained the necessity of bridging the gaps between engineering syllabus and industrial standards. Dr.J.Preetha Roselyn, SRM Faculty Mentor delivered the vote of thanks. The teams presented their concepts and ideas before the juries comprising of 5 industrial experts and 3 academicians. The communication proposed by the participants for this challenge are LoRA, RPMA, Wimax, Laser and Lifi types of communication networks in case of regular network failures during storms, earthquakes, floods and terrorist attacks. The participants innovated their ideas with developed Application software, GPS tracking and voice recording. The juries clarified and provided their valuable suggestions to the participants. Then the participants demonstrated their prototypes to the juries in a briefed manner. The teams were sincerely validated based on identification of appropriate technology, transmitting location to second device, displaying range and bearing, transmission of characters between devices, range achieved for transmission, ergonomics, design and cost of production. The valedictory function was presided by Captain Shyam Sundar, Chief of Staff Operation and delivered the valedictory address. The summary of the competition was briefed by Mr.K. Nandakumar. Dr.C.Muthamizhchelvan, Director (Engg&Tech) graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. The Vembu scholarship awardees of SRM Institute, Sathyaram and Abhilasha Dey were awarded the certificates by the chief guest. It has been decided to increase the number of student members in the institute. The students are motivated to think engineering beyond the syllabus and provide solutions to marine purposes. The winners of the competition were rewarded with prizes worth Rs 50000/-, medals and certificates. Dr.R.Venkatesan delivered the vote of thanks and the programme ended.

EVENT NO 7: POWER AND CONTROL WORKSHOP: AUG 19, 2018

The power and control system workshop conducted in SRM Institute of Science and Technology on 19/07/2018 consisted of two main sessions. The first session consisted of introduction for LabVIEW, basic LabVIEW functionalities and modules. Finally the control system module was designed and simulated for a DC motor in real time LabVIEW environment. All the topics were actively discussed under a experienced LabVIEW personnel Mr. Prakash Kannan. The second session consisted of real time hardware implementation of buck and boost converter. First of all the basic theory of a buck as well as boost converter were briefly discussed including its design formulation. The students had an opportunity to deeply understand the core concepts since they had a hands on experience connecting the hardware components in real time. It was also made sure that every student obtained their output for both buck as well as boost operations. The hardware implementation was guided by VI microsystems.

EVENT NO 8: ATTENDED MTS TECHSURGE CONFERENCE AND PARTICIPATED IN POSTER PRESENTATIONS- 8TH AUG 2018

SR MTS STUDENT CHAPTER MEMBERS ATTENDED MTS TECHSURGE CONFERENCE 2018 arranged ny MTS INDIA SECTION. SRM MTS faculty mentor were the organizing person for one session in the conference. Also the SRM MTS student members participated in poster presentations during the conference.

EVENT NO 9: SCHOOL STUDENTS AWARENESS CAMP, OCT 6, 2018

On 6th October 2018, the SRM MTS Student Chapter executive committee conducted a student awareness campaign at S.B.O.A school and junior college, Anna Nagar West extension, Chennai. The program was conducted for two hours (9.15AM-11.15AM) and eleventh and twelfth grade students comprised the audience. The event focused on spreading information and creating awareness about technological advancements in marine sciences among school students, by showcasing activities conducted by the SRM MTS Student Chapter. Research projects, clubs and activities associated with MTS, were explained with videos and presentations, with emphasis on arousing student interests in the mentioned areas. This was followed by a student interaction session, where the members of the chapter, had an extensive discussion on the mentioned topics. An open quiz followed, where interested students had participated. There two rounds, one written and an oral session. The topics included for the quiz where general knowledge, marine biology, and marine based logo quiz. Students had great enthusiasm, and involved themselves actively with the events that were conducted. Special prizes were given to exciting answers from audience. Flyers regarding MTS club, were distributed to students, which contained the highlights and important events conducted by the club. The event had concluded with the certificate distribution to the first three winners of the quiz competition.

EVENT NO 10: MARINE TECHNICAL WORKSHOP, MARCH 5-9,2019

The technical workshop conducted in SRM Institute of Science and Technology during 05-03-19 to 09-03-19. The first session consisted of introduction for LabVIEW, basic LabVIEW functionalities and modules. Finally the control system module was designed and simulated for a DC motor in real time LabVIEW environment. All the topics were actively discussed by technical persons from National Instruments, Bangalore. The five days intense programme consists of training on labview software, hardware equipments like myrio and Elvis II+. The students are exposed to technical discussions with the industrial experts and participation certificates were provided.

EVENT NO 11: FISHING VESSEL VISIT- APRIL 2019

SRM MTS student chapter arranged for a port visit to understand the features of fishing vessel and the challenges faced by the fisherman during sailing. The team realized the difficulties of the fishermen, equipment available in the vessel, communication platforms used by the crew. Now the technical team is working on communication network through LoRA (long range communication), Solar PV and battery for energy minimizing the usage of diesel generators which greatly reduces the CO2 emission and identifying the fish catch in the nets. By this way, the team has started working to create a livelihood environment to the fishermen.

EVENT NO 12: TECHNO SCIENCE SCHOOL EXPO 2019

Techno-Science Fair, a two-day national wide school competition, organized by Marine Technology Society (MTS), India Section in association with SRM MTS Student Chapter and SRM ASCE Student Chapter was held on 11th and 12th of July 2019 at T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. Schools from various parts of India participated, where a mixture of students from various grades and boards displayed their creative skill in the form of a working model or prototype and posters. The competition provided a widespread option in choosing the stream and track of interest for the students, thereby enabling choice flexibility. Students who chose the prototype track can further choose between one of the following four streams namely – Energy, Environment, Health, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics and Construction. No stream wise categorisation was present for the students who participated in the poster track, thereby no boundary was drawn for the student`s creativity. In addition to prototype and poster tracks, a quiz track was present, where two rounds – prelims and finals were held and student`s knowledge on real-time applications, novels and famous places were tested.

A brief about the moments of the competition Techno-Science Fair was inaugurated on 11 July 2019. Dr. R. Venkatesan, Chairman, MTS India Section & Group Head – Ocean Observation Systems, NIOT welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Venkatesan, briefed about the objective of the student chapter, the mission of MTS and the benefits of being an MTS member. Dr. D. Devaraj, Dean – Academics, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) delivered the inaugural address. The chief guest briefed about the advancements in the field of science, benefits of attending a science fair and the importance of engineering in day to day life. Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Director(E&T), SRM IST felicitated the event. Dr. J. Preetha Roselyn, Student Mentor, SRMMTS Student Chapter briefed about the competition to the audience. The inaugural address was followed by presentation of mementos to the chief guests and the competition`s juries. Dr.K.Vijayakumar, HOD/EEE and Dr.Sathyanarayanan, HOD/Civil delivered the felicitation address. The end of the inaugural ceremony marked the beginning of the competition.
Juries from various fields of expertise were called to evaluate the work of the students. Selective juries were chosen to evaluate the posters based on the student`s work and their presentation. The organization of the competition and the volunteer`s efficiency can be proved exceptional, as different tracks – prototype, poster and quiz were proceeding parallelly. A quiz master, who had conducted various quiz competitions at national level, took the responsibility of putting forward the questions to the students and an evaluator took charge of allotting points to each student team. Refreshments and a grand buffet lunch were served on both the days of the competition. The volunteers also ensured that students from far away distances were escorted to the competition location and provided with good hospitality by arranging proper transport facilities and stay at the institute`s student hostel. The competition, on its second day, came to a finish followed by a valedictory function. Chief guest – Mr. K. Nandakumar, Secretary, MTS India Section participated in the valedictory function of the competition and awarded prizes to the students of the winning team. Cash prizes and medals were awarded to the students of winning team and runner-up in each stream of prototype track and also winning team and runner-up of poster and quiz tracks. In addition, the winning team and the runner-up received an excellence certificate. Participation certificates were awarded to all the participating teams and an appreciation certificate was awarded to all the volunteers and faculty mentors of schools. The valedictory function was marked with its end by a national anthem.

Success points of the competition
- A total of 420 students from 19 schools participated in the event.
- 109 Prototypes, offering real-life applications, and 27 posters discussing about everyday issues were presented by the students and 46 teams participated in quiz competitions.
- 14 Juries, whose area of expertise were – Energy/Health/AI and Robotics/ Construction/Environment.
- Certain prototypes presented by the students were equal to those made at engineering level.
- Cash prizes, medals and excellence certificates for students from the top two winning teams were presented by the chief guests during the valedictory function.
- Participation certificates were awarded to all the participating teams and appreciation certificates were awarded to all the volunteers.

EVENT NO 13: SRM MTS STUDENT CHAPTER ORGANIZED TECHNICAL SESSION ON REMOTE ACCESS LABORATORY

On 3 January 2020, MTS student chapter of SRM Institute of Science and Technology conducted a lab training session on Remote access Lab. This session was conducted by Mr.Prakash K.(Application Engineer), who explained the various concepts and demonstrated how to use the various circuits available remotely. The session included explanations for thirteen circuits and two bread boards. Remote lab allows students to access circuits from anywhere within the campus.At a time more than 30 students can access the same circuit or different circuits using their laptop /desktop and put their own values for the circuit parameters, for example, if 30 students want to access a resistor remotely they can do so using this device and put their own different values of resistance. As the execution is carried out sequentially, one users value does not overlap the other. This system allows us to build our own circuits , give feedback through function generator and oscilloscope as well as using filters. Basic analog circuits can also be made such as voltage divider by ac using BJT. Using the built in circuits more than 30 new circuits can be made.

 


The in-built circuits are as follows :
1. Voltage divider biasing
2. DC quiescent conditions
3. AC performance of the common emitter BJT amplifier
4. Unloaded voltage gain
5. Loaded voltage gain
6. Cascaded amplifiers
7. Maximum peak-to-peak output voltage
8. Emitter resistor by-pass capacitor
9. Negative feedback
10. Differential amplifier
11. SCR operation
12. SCR dimmer
13. OTL amplifier

EVENT NO 14: GUEST LECTURE ON INTERNET OF THINGS

On the 3 of February 2020, The MTS Student chapter of SRM Institute of Science and Technology organized a Guest Lecture in association with Gemicates Lab Pvt. Ltd. The Speakers for the event were Mrs M.Deepalakshmi , Director Gemicates Lab Pvt. Ltd. and Mr Vara Prashad Erapu who is currently working as an IoT Embedded Engineer in Gemicates Lab Pvt. Ltd. The event was inaugurated by Dr.U.Sowmmiya Assistant Professor(OG), Department of EEE , SRM Institute Of Science and Technology followed by which our Speaker Mr Vara Prashad Erapu started his session. The session included discussions on topics such as the basic concepts of IoT ,the usage of IoT on a scientific level in homeware electronic appliances and emphasized the importance of presence of internet for effective use IoT. This was followed by a practical demo session to access the IoT devices using an app employing a student demo URL. A setup of commonly used home appliances was also present and their operation using IoT was demonstrated. Finally a doubt clearing session was held where our speakers answered and cleared our students confusions and also emphasized the Importance of IoT in the upcoming Industries.

 

EVENT NO 15: VISIT TO SHIVANANDA ASHRAM

On the 12 th of January 2020, MTS Student Chapter of SRM Institute of Science and Technology paid a visit to Shivananda Ashram as part of their outreach program to educate young minds. Shivananda Ashram is a home for hundreds of young children . Along with providing a stable home the ashram also caters to the health and development of its inhabitants.The children living in the ashram are very well behaved and friendly and made our team feel welcome from the very start. The day began with an introduction session of the children in classes 4 and 5. To make everyone comfortable and build up team spirit several interactive games were organized by our team .This was followed by session on verbs and finally drawing where the children drew beautiful images expressing their ideas on how to decorate an earthen pot. All in all this event was a great success as both our team and the children had a wonderful time and made amazing memories to cherish.
